After a recent, gorgeous matinee performance of American Ballet Theatre's Swan Lake, I was joined at Dianne & Elisabeth's Happy Hour by the ballet's conductor, David LaMarche. Charlie Marshall, Dianne & Elisabeth's Proprietor, was an attentive host, as we sat at the window, enjoying the Hell's Kitchen early evening scene, from the bar area. David's Gin and Tonic and my Chardonnay were perfect for a particularly warm night. Our Cheese Platter included Bonne Bouche ashed goat cheese and Cabot "Vault 5" lard aged cheddar, with Honeycomb, Pepper Jelly, and Crostini.

Dianne & Elisabeth, the elegant Hell’s Kitchen bistro hosted by restaurateur Charlie Marshall, has the most sophisticated Happy Hour in the area. From 5 PM to 7 PM, weekdays, and 4 PM to 7 PM, weekends, the bar is packed, not a seat in the house. Dianne & Elisabeth is named for the owners' mothers (respectively) Weiss and Marshall. The two-room space has a candlelit bar that looks out on the hustle and bustle of Tenth Avenue passersby. If you look closely, you might see theater celebrities walking to or from Broadway or Off-Broadway shows, many of whom live in the Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood. Dancers, musicians, and visual artists, as well, stop by Dianne & Elisabeth for a small or large plate and a wine or cocktail, after a performance or gallery event. Stop by Dianne & Elisabeth's Happy Hour, and stay for dinner! Ask for Charlie Marshall, and tell him you saw them on!
