See an Introductory Testimonial about Bar Gonzo.

I recently stopped by after a Broadway show at Bar Gonzo, Ninth Avenue at 38th-39th Streets, Hell’s Kitchen, for a cocktail, called Rum Diary, named for the Hunter Thompson novel. The upstairs tropical lounge looked and felt sensational, in the late-night ambiance. Later, at the Peacock Bar, downstairs, I chatted with a Co-Owner of Bar Gonzo, Richard L. King, a warm, convivial personality, with a tattoo memoir inked on his limbs. My Rum Diary cocktail, made with Rum, Lime Juice, Cranberry Juice, Peach Liqueur, and Orgeat Almond Syrup, was sublime. It drew me into a vibrant chat with Richard about the nature of his tattoos, a lifelong venture to literally imprint his life’s journey onto permanent visuals for all to see. We lost track of specifics, but you will see a gas station, fried chicken and shrimp cafés, a long stem rose, peach, turnip, and strawberry plants, and bunches of carrots, corn, and squash. Richard is often seen at Bar Gonzo, and he’s a personality to seek out for a cocktail chat.

In the near future, Bar Gonzo will open the rooftop of the upstairs bar for an open-air lounge effect, but, meanwhile, there’s also a terrace that overlooks 9th Avenue and its starry sky above. Bar Gonzo is available for party rentals, upstairs and downstairs, and an extensive photo journal is linked above in the introductory testimonial. Manager Alyssa warmly greets the guests, and a lively, vibrant ambiance wafts throughout the bilevel space. Stop by Bar Gonzo, after a show or a walk on the High Line. And be sure to look for Richard and ask about his tattoo memoir. Tell them you saw them on RobertaOnTheArts.com!
