I recently caught up with Elaine, a friend who performs solo piano with the ballet and composes music, at Mama Mia, where every dish is prepared to order, uniquely and in a home-cooked style, to celebrate the New Year 2018. Connie, Mama Mia Proprietor, personally waited on our table, near the window. We shared a Zucchini Fritti with Spicy Marinara Sauce. I ordered the Manicotti with Ricotta Cheese, Fresh Mozzarella, and Marinara Sauce, and Elaine chose the Baked Penne Siciliano with Eggplant, Fresh Mozzarella, and Marinara Sauce. Each pasta dish, as well as the fried zucchini appetizer, was incredibly fresh and fantastic. Mama Mia was still decked out in Christmas ornamentations, and the rooms were buzzing with social energy.
Originally a 1970's pizzeria, Mama Mia became the renowned, dining destination for hungry performing artists and their Hell’s Kitchen neighbors, as well as theater audiences and the theater industry. The ravishing cocktails and sparkling, red, and white wines, as well as liqueurs, that fuel Mama Mia’s ever- busy bar scene, are prepared and served by the masterful bartenders, with after-theater hours nightly. Mama Mia is also known for its superb, private parties, especially its ebullient birthday events, with everyone singing in celebration. Stop by Mama Mia, near all Broadway shows, the Fashion District, and not far from the High Line park and walkways. Tell them you saw them on RobertaOnTheArts.com!
