Charlie Marshall, whose 10th Avenue, Hell’s Kitchen restaurant, The Marshal, generates lines around the block, also owns, with Neil Weiss and Brian Weiss, Dianne & Elisabeth, a sleek, chic, intimate and elegant venue, right on the next block from its sister space. And, speaking of relatives, Dianne & Elisabeth is named for mothers (respectively) Weiss and Marshall. I had the pleasure of touring the two-room space, with its candlelit bar that looks out on the hustle and bustle of Tenth Avenue passersby. In fact, if you look closely, you might see theater celebrities walking to or from Broadway or Off-Broadway shows, many of whom live in the Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood. Dancers, musicians, and visual artists, as well, might stop by Dianne & Elisabeth for a small or large plate and a wine or cocktail, after a performance.

As you enter the restaurant, you might even want to sample a wine at the bar, before taking your table, just to absorb the ambiance of the window seating, the custom-built, white wood cabinets, and the inviting warmth of the bartenders. Those charming bartenders also serve Weekend Brunch cocktails, like Bloody Mary, Mimosa, Bellini, and Aperol Spritzer. In fact, after Brunch, Saturdays or Sundays, you can enjoy the busy bar scene, while the dining area is closed, 4PM to 5PM, between Brunch and Dinnertime. Weekdays, the dining room and bar open at 5PM (full schedule is above). So, even before a show, concert, jazz club, or a walk on the High Line, Dianne & Elisabeth is your destination for a beer, a daiquiri, or a merlot. Happy Hour at Dianne & Elisabeth is 5PM – 7PM, weekdays, and 4PM – 7PM, weekends. Happy Hour Beers ($5), White Wines ($8), Red Wines ($9), and Cocktails ($9), like Aunt Mary’s Moonlight Nip, made with Tequila, fresh pineapple, lime juice, cane syrup, and sage, are waiting for you!

Dianne & Elisabeth’s dining room has intimate window and back area seating, plus comfortable side tables at the gorgeous grey, exposed brick wall. The design of both rooms mixes elements of contemporary sleekness and traditional materials, like brick, wood, copper, and brass. A strategically placed black-white, framed photograph adds visual intrigue. And, most intriguing is the expansive list of farm to table styled menu selections, and let’s start with dinner. Bites include Chicken Liver Mousse and Spicy Marinated Pineapple, while Cheese & Charcuterie includes Bouche, an ashed goat cheese from Vermont, Bayley Hazen Blue, a raw cow cheese, also from Vermont, Pistachio Mortadella, from Oregon, and Andouille, from Illinois. As noted, Dianne & Elisabeth’s products, vegetables, fruits, fish, meats, poultry, wines, beer, etc., are all sourced from American farms and vineyards. Every dish impressively features local ingredients, as well. Plates, Small and Large, include Roasted Creamed Kale Dip, with curly green kale, cream, parmesan, garlic, and crostini, Roasted Shrimp, with locally farmed, fresh organic shrimp, chimichurri, and grits, and Basil Ravioli in Lobster Cream Sauce, with pasta filled with goat cheese, ricotta, herbs, and lemon zest.

On the Main Course menu, you will find Pesto Pasta Primavera, with basil walnut pesto, shitake mushrooms, red & yellow pepper, asparagus, spring garlic tossed with buffalo milk, spaccatelli pasta, and parmesan. Also, you’ll find Steak Bavette, with red wine marinade, compound marjoram and lovage butter, and buttered popcorn polenta. As an Accompaniment, you can order Grilled Local Asparagus, with sea salt and caramelized lemon. The Weekend Brunch menu is expansive, with options like Lemon Meringue Waffles, with buttermilk waffles, sweet lemon butter drizzle, lemon curd, mini meringues, and maple syrup, as well as Egg & Cheese Crostone, with NY cheddar, fresh herbs, garlic, sunny side up egg, and hashbrowns. Salads, like Beet, Apple, & Fennel, with mixed greens, Bayley Hazen blue cheese, caraway, and red wine honey vinaigrette, plus To Share choices, like Hudson Valley Burrata, with heirloom tomatoes, aged balsamic, and fresh basil, are also Brunch selections.

Most intriguing of all is the American Wine list, with Sparkling Wines, like Blanc de Noir, Grüet Brut, New Mexico, and White Wines, like Dry Riesling, William Vigné, Fulkerson Wines, Seneca Lake, New York and Albariño, Abacela, Umpqua Valley, Oregon. Red Wines on Dianne & Elisabeth’s generous Wine List include Cabernet Franc, Bellangelo, Finger Lakes, New York and Tempranillo / Primitivo, “Tarzan”, Merkin Vineyards, New Mexico, and Rosé Wines include Pinot Noir Rosé, Archery Summit, “Vireton”, Willamette Valley, Oregon. Cocktails range from Black & White Mojito, with Monkey Toasted Coconut Rum, blackberry and coconut purée, fresh lime, and cane sugar, to Old Fashioned, with bourbon, bitters, cane syrup, and orange twist, to Sazerac, with rye, absinthe, cane syrup, and bitters. Among the Beers, you will find Olde Saratoga Brewing, Lager, New York and War Flag Grandmaster IPA, New York. Stop by Dianne & Elisabeth, Wine Bar & Kitchen, and tell them you saw them on RobertaOnTheArts.com!
