Hell’s Kitchen just got hotter, and not because it’s July. Tumbao, a new Cuban restaurant and vibrant bar, brought to Ninth Avenue and 47th Street by the team of Ciro, Miguel, and Manager, Paulo, will immediately transport you to balmy Havana! Expansive, painted murals of gorgeous Cuban cultural images, handmade glass lighting overhead, a vibrantly lit bar, comfortable seating arrangements, and sidewalk café tables make Tumbao the place to be and be seen! And, then there’s the pulsating music of mambos, salsa, meringue, rumba, cha-cha, and sultry Cuban bass and guitar. Once you arrive at Tumbao, you will not want to leave, and luckily they are open until midnight every night. Tumbao also features a Happy Hour daily, 4 PM to 8 PM, with two for one cocktails! And, those cocktails are fantastic. So far I have enjoyed Tumbao’s original Classic Bacardí Mojito and its Piña Colada. Each drink is made fresh, and Tumbao is proud to have Bacardí Superior featured in many selections. My Classic Bacardí Mojito was made with Bacardí Superior Rum, limes, fresh mint leaves, brown sugar, and simple syrup. My Piña Colada was made with Bacardí Superior Rum, coconut purée, and pineapple juice.

Tumbao has a wide selection of Signature Cocktails on its menu, including Mangonada, made with Banhez Mezcal, Citrónge Lime, mango nectar, fresh lime juice, and spicy rim, Patrón Perfect Margarita, made with Patrón Silver, Citrónge Orange, fresh lime juice, and agave nectar, and Copacabana Caipirinha, made with Pitú Pachaça, guava purée, fresh muddle limes, and brown sugar. Tumbao Goblets, shareable, include Caribbean Blue Sea, made with Bacardí Pineapple, Bacardí Raspberry, Blue Curaçao, pineapple juice, and club soda, and South Beach Mojito, made with Bacardí Banana, muddle berries, fresh mint leaves, lime juice, pomegranate nectar, and club soda. Tumbao Big Drinks, also shareable, include Big Boss Margarita, a 35 oz. frozen margarita, made with a Corona and a Mexican flavor Jarrito soda, and Patrón in a Bottle, a 24 oz. frozen margarita, with an additional Patrón Silver shot, and choices of flavors, like mango, passion fruit, or coconut. Tumbao’s Classic Bacardí Mojito can also be served in a shareable pitcher, in flavors like blood orange and guava. Chilean wines, Cabernet and Chardonnay, are also available, as well as Red and White Sangria, by the glass or pitcher.

Tumbao’s incredibly varied Appetizers include my favorite, Lobster Guacamole, with fresh lobster meat, avocado, chunky onions, Serrano peppers, cilantro, tomatoes, lime, and salt, served with Tortilla chips, Mini Sweet Colombian Arepas, with guacamole, crema fresca, pickled red onions, and cotija cheese, and Calamari Fritto, with fried crispy calamari, yucca French fries, and chipotle mayo. Tumbao’s Sandwiches and Salads include Ensalada de Aguacate, with avocado, red onions, cilantro, grape tomatoes, and lime vinaigrette, Cuban Sandwich, with ham, cheese, roasted pork, pickles, and mustard on Cuban bread, and Gauchito, with traditional, Cuban grilled Cuban style steak, topped with caramelized Spanish onions, with chipotle mayo and toasted Cuban bread. Tumbao’s Entrées include Arroz con Pollo, with saffron rice, roasted marinated chicken, sweet peas, eggs, and garlic cilantro mojo, Ropa Vieja, with shredded steak braised in tomato, roasted pepper salsa criolla, white rice, and black beans, and Lechon Asado, with slow oven roasted pork leg with Cuban mojo, morro rice, and sweet plantains. You can also order Sides with drinks and dishes, like Mexican Corn, Tostones, and Maduros. Also ask about desserts of the day. Coming soon at Tumbao will be a selection of authentic Cuban cigars! Stop by Tumbao for drinks and lunch, dinner, or a dish before or after a Broadway show or Off-Broadway play. Tell them you saw them on RobertaOnTheArts.com!
