Aficionados of Geffen Hall concerts, The Met operas, Koch Theater ballets, Lincoln Center Theater plays, Lincoln Plaza events, NY Film Society series, Tully Hall chamber events, NY Public Library for the Performing Arts research, and Upper West Side movie theaters have a destination restaurant for the finest Italian cuisine. Luce Restaurant & Enoteca, on Broadway between 68th and 69th Streets, is open from 11:30 AM to 11 PM, and to 11:30 PM on weekends. Lunch, Dinner, and Weekend Brunch can be enjoyed in the main dining room, with its extraordinary European flair, at the intimate marble bar, along with its bar tables, and in Luce’s busy sidewalk terrazzo, amidst the Lincoln Square community. I have enjoyed, over the years, lovely dinners at the Luce bar and in the dining room, and I can vouch for the personalized attention afforded to each and every guest. Luce’s décor includes comfortable, spacious seating, with Italianate columns, table settings, flowers, candles, and contemporary paintings, all contributing to its welcoming ambiance. Interior window views enhance the experience, and you will be transported to Milan, Rome, and Sicily, all at once, when you explore the expansive menu options.

Luce’s appetizers include platters of cheeses, like Gorgonzola and Pecorino, with cured meats, like Mortadella and Bresaola, plus Smoked Salmon on toast, with onions and capers, Asparagus wrapped in prosciutto, with roasted peppers (my favorite), Bay Scallops and Shrimp, sautéed with tomatoes, and Mussels steamed with white wine. Luce’s salads include Goat Cheese Salad with baby spinach, Luce Salad with hearts of palm, arugula, avocado, parmesan, and Baby Arugula and Beets with raspberry dressing. Luce’s specialty and signature pasta dishes include Homemade Ravioli with spinach, ricotta, mushroom sauce, Spaghetti with shrimp and broccoli rabe, Black Linguine with arugula, crab meat, tomatoes, and Whole Wheat Spaghetti with zucchini, eggplant, tomatoes. Of course, Luce features daily specials, but you can choose from among its renowned entrées, like Chicken Soprese, breast of chicken in parmesan, with sautéed artichokes and peas, Center-Cut Filet Mignon, wrapped in pancetta, with gorgonzola, Filet of Branzino, with vegetables and potatoes, and extra-thick Veal Chop, with sautéed mushrooms and grilled vegetables. Luce’s brunch selections, which should be paired with a weekend cocktail, include Classic Eggs Benedict, with Canadian bacon and hollandaise, Vegetable Frittata, with baked eggs and vegetables, Focaccia Luce, with smoked salmon and mozzarella, and Crab Cakes, with poached eggs, spinach, hollandaise.

Luce’s desserts can be served individually or to share, like Ricotta Cheesecake, with orange essence, Molten Chocolate, with vanilla gelato, Tartuffo, Tre Lecce, Tiramisu, and Panacotta. Come to Luce to savor these remarkable Italian desserts. You can come before a concert, film, or ballet, and sit at the bar with an appetizer and cocktail. Then, you can return later for an entrée, wine, and maybe a dessert! Come with friends, family, co-workers, dates, or on your own. You’re always welcome at Luce! Sit outdoors in the Luce terrazzo, at the bar, at a bar table, or in the sunny yellow dining room among the columns and art work. Or, if you prefer takeout or delivery, Luce’s service is impeccable. Luce can cater parties and events at your home or office, too. Tell them you saw them on RobertaOnTheArts.com!
