As soon as you walk down a few steps to Sangria 46, on Restaurant Row in the Theater District, you will be transported to sunny Spain. The enticing, colorful bar will beckon you to the expansive list of Sangrias by the glass or full pitcher, such as "Strawberry & Peach", with fresh strawberries, peaches, brandy, triple sec, and white wine, "Mango", with mango, white wine, brandy, and triple sec, and "Cava", with Spanish champagne, brandy, triple sec, and mixed fruit. Sangria 46 (it's on West 46th Street) also has an impressive selection of wines by the glass or bottle, with a list of red wines, including "Agua de Piedra", a Malbec from Argentina, "Seniorio de Barriobero", a Rioja from Spain, and "Casillero del Diablo", a Cabernet Sauvignon from Chile. Among the list of white wines are "Crios de Susana Balbo", a Torrontes from Argentina, and "Fuenteseca", a Sauvignon Blanc from Spain. Sangria 46 also serves Rosé and Sparkling Wines, Vermouth, Sherry, and Port. The bar also features Beers from Spain, Mexico, Holland, and the USA.

Sangria 46 is open at noon for lunch through dinner, Tuesday through Sunday, and at 4 PM through dinner on Monday. The restaurant closes at 11 PM Sunday through Thursday, and at midnight, Friday and Saturday. You can dine at the bar and enjoy the company of other guests, or dine at the bar tables, taking in the vibrant ambiance. The main dining room features live music on Monday evenings, 7 PM to 10 PM, with a guitarist playing music from Spain and Latin America and a singer or Flamenco dancer. I stopped by Sangria 46 for Gisele Assi on vocals, palmas (rhythmic clapping), and dance, with Espiritu Gitano on guitar. Flautist, Elise Wood-Hicks, sat in on the sets during dinner. The dinner guests were thrilled, listening from the dining room and gorgeous outdoor patio, through the open-dining doors. The patio dining is adorned with umbrellas, plants, and a mural of a matador and bull. The music was both fervent and sultry, bringing a breeze from Barcelona to Restaurant Row.

The dining menu at Sangria 46 is so inviting that you'll be eager to return soon to try new dishes. Seafood, Vegetarian, and Meat Tapas are sized for multiple orders for the table, a tasting party for yourself, for a couple, or for a group of friends or family. The Tapas menu features dishes like Coconut-battered Shrimp, Grilled Octopus, Spanish Potato-onion Omelet, Yucca Croquettes, Chorizo Sausage, and Grilled Filet Mignon Medallions. Fantastic Soups, Salads, and Meat-Cheese Platters can lusciously round out a table of Tapas. Among the listings of Main Dishes, you'll find Grilled Pork Chops with peppers, onions, white wine, and lemon, Shrimp sautéed in olive oil, garlic, and Spanish paprika, Seafood Stew with clams, mussels, shrimp, and calamari, Lobster Ravioli in pink sauce, Grilled Chicken Breast in a date sauce, served over risotto-style rice with mushrooms, and Mixed Vegetables, sautéed with quinoa and almonds, seasoned with olive oil, cumin, and oregano. Of course, Paella is a popular dish at Sangria 46, including Paella de Mariscos and Arroz con Pollo. And, this is just a slice of Sangria 46's incredible menu. In fact, desserts include Flan, Tres Leches Sponge Cake, and Lemon Marscapone Cake. Prix-Fixe Lunch and Dinner is also available for before Broadway matinees or evening shows.

Sangria 46, family owned and operated, is the perfect location for your parties and events. Ask for Ariel or Judith, and tell them you saw them on RobertaOnTheArts.com!
