Tonight was September 11, 2008, and, as far as I knew, the only time to reflect on this day's tribute in the presence of the tall, blue light beams, that emanate from Ground Zero, dusk to dawn. These beams were even more splendid than I had remembered from years past, clear and piercing, as high as the moon and clouds.
In the North Cove Marina, where Shearwater is docked, the beams seem to merge, as the viewing angle prevents the eye from seeing both beams separately. A white light sears the beam at midpoint, perhaps due to the skyscrapers' and moon's reflections. However, once Shearwater set sail, the beams were viewed as a pair, and, although the schooner rocked in the quiet Harbor, I was able to capture some images of this very spiritual and soothing excursion. The City Lights Sail is a magical time to see the twinkling skyline from New York Harbor.
The Shearwater staff was on hand with wine and expertise to keep the sail peaceful and relaxing.
