Before boarding the Shearwater, an 82' sailing yacht built in 1929, I strolled the pathways near North Cove Marina, photographing wild roses, young men playing pool, families picnicking and tossing baseballs, and residents bicycling, skate-boarding, and finding shade on the numerous park benches. Some faced the Harbor and some chatted in groups of twos or threes. This lower Manhattan neighborhood boasts dozens of new skyscrapers, trendy shops and bistros, and endless views of New York Harbor and its busy waterway.

For today's weekly Wine Tasting Tour, a late Sunday afternoon ritual, but my first, the Shearwater Staff greeted a group of Argentinean tourists, part of the Abonnie Tour, from Buenos Aires. The guests were spirited and visibly enjoyed the Shearwater experience. Felicia Sherbert, who wrote The Unofficial Guide to Selecting Wine, served four different wines, red and white, as the sailing progressed. She was quite steady, considering the mid-Harbor waves, due to passing cruise boats and occasional winds. The Shearwater staff was also on hand to keep the sail smooth and enjoyable, as always.
