Opening Night Reception

December 16, 2003 Included in this exhibition of Holiday-related art by the Forum Gallery artists is a large painting by Nelson Shanks, with many sources of light , in Saint Peter's Basilica, "Portrait of Pope John Paul II", shown here for the first time in New York. (Gallery Notes). In my opinion, Shanks depicts the Pope as benevolent, devout, and approachable.
Also included in the fifth floor galleries are watercolors by Chaim Gross and Mark Podwal, as well as works by Brian Rutenberg, Robert Cottingham, Martha Mayer Erlebacher (See Forum Erlebacher Exhibit), and Frederick Brosen. A 2002-2003 painting, "Creche", by Linden Frederick, is also featured. (Gallery Notes).
I enjoyed this Forum Gallery Holiday Reception, opening night, which provided wine and conversation to an extraordinarily fine selection of seasonal works of art, as well as very interesting sculptures and collages. I look forward to the next Forum Gallery Reception and exhibition.
