Tonight’s “Jazz in the Sky”, outdoors on a clear, perfect evening, replete with a large orange moon, swung with the dynamic virtuosity of Harry Allen on tenor sax, in collaboration with three renowned guitarists, Gene Bertoncini, Joe Cohn, and Freddie Bryant. These four classy musicians were also joined in the second set by Daryl Sherman on vocals, and the audience filled every available bistro table and chair.
Partial Program: “Manha de Carnival”, “Softly as a Morning Sunrise”, “Yesterdays”, “Nuages”, “What are You Doing the Rest of Your Life”, “Three Little Words”, “I Thought About You”. There were solos, duos, and improvisational accompaniment that generated musical conversations that passed guitar to guitar and back to the sax. The quartet had a fine time, and so did the guests. The menu at Terrace in the Sky includes a delicious, three-tapas dinner at “Jazz in the Sky” pricing, with wine or cocktail. Of course, the moon and skyline views, as always, were captivating.
