On the eighth “Jazz in the Sky” event the weather was picture perfect, with a crescent moon, clear sky, still air, and a skyline for miles. This early fall event brought early darkness, so the stars and Terrace lights were all the more meaningful, with the outdoor heating machines barely needed. The “Jazz in the Sky” bar created tropical drinks once again, and I ordered my usual grapefruit cosmos. According to pianist, Bill O’Connell, “The venue is truly spectacular. The open air, the view, and a gorgeous night made for a very memorable evening.”

We were honored tonight, because just this morning, Dave Valentin’s new High Note CD, “World on a String” was nominated for a 2006 Latin Grammy. Bill O’Connell and Richie Flores also appear, among others, on this CD, with Bill’s own composition as well. This record and Valentin’s newest recording, “Come Fly with Me” were both recorded at Manfred Knoop’s state of the art, TWINZ studio in River Edge, New Jersey. The eclectic program above exemplifies the hot, exciting music heard at “Jazz in the Sky”, with prolonged riffs by each musician and even a guest appearance by a “Jazz in the Sky” veteran, TK Blue, on tenor saxophone. In fact, many renowned musicians appear regularly at our Terrace in the Sky events, to hear the music, to network with the crowd, and to order one of the staff’s original, exotic drinks.

“Jazz in the Sky” will continue indoors in November, 2006, through the winter, prior to re-appearing outdoors in early spring, 2007.
