The National Arts Club, in the Tilden Mansion, built in the 1840ís and a National Historic Landmark, brings artists and arts enthusiasts together from around the world. It was founded by Charles DeKay, New York Times literary and art critic for 18 years. The National Arts Club champions female, minority, and student artists, and its membership has included three Presidents, Theodore Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson, and Dwight D. Eisenhower. Painters who were members include Frederic Remington and William Merritt Chase. Musicians include Victor Herbert and Walter Damrosch. Dramatists include Martin Scorsese and Robert Redford. In addition, Alfred Stieglitz, photographer, and Stanford White, architect, were members. The Club offers scholarships and awards and is assisted by volunteers. (Program Notes)

Tonightís Opening Reception was organized by O. Alden James, Jr., President of The National Club, George Stathopoulos, Exhibition Coordinator, and Katerina Koskina, Curator of the J. F. Costopoulos Foundation. The nine artists represented are Manolis Charos, Kostis Georgiou, Erietta Vordoni, Stefanos Daskalakis, Giorgos Golfinos, Giorgos Rorris, Maria Filopoulou, Pavlos Samios, and Manolis Zacharioudakis (MSAZ). Paintings ranged from wide-brimmed, straw hats, to luscious fruits, to underwater nudes, to reclining nudes, to elegant shoes, to colorful florals, plus collages and metal works, as well. The notes refer to differentiation in style, but commonality in historic references. Candid photos of the Club, exhibition, and reception follow.
