Program (Program Notes Courtesy of Hendrik Meurkens):

1) PASSARIM (A. C. Jobim)

This is one of Jobim's later works. It is a beautiful piece that is really more
a composition than a vehicle for improvisation. We put in a little vamp on two
chords in the middle to make room for the solos.

2) MENINA NA JANELA (Choro No.5) (Hendrik Meurkens)

One of my Chorinhos, written for my younger daughter Joana. Chorinho or
Choro is an old Brazilian instrumental style that I feel very close to. I have
written quite a few of them over the years, and this one has been recorded on
my latest CD 'AMAZON RIVER'.

3) PRELUDE TO A KISS (Duke Ellington)

A Standard by the great Duke Ellington. Helio arranged it and put some nice
reharmonizations in there.

4) LINGUA DE MOSQUITO (Choro No.6) (Hendrik Meurkens)

Another one of my Chorinhos. This duo with Helio is the perfect setting for
playing my Choros. Helio's sense of time is impeccable, and he easily carries the
rhythm alone all by himself.

A Jobim classic from the Bossa Nova era. This tune has been recorded under
three different names by Jobim himself. The beauty of the harmonica comes out
best in slow tunes like this.

6) MIMOSA (Choro No.3) (Hendrik Meurkens)

The third Chorinho of mine. This one has been around for a while. I recorded it first
in Rio in 1989 on my very first album 'SAMBA IMPORTADO'.

7) THE NEARNESS OF YOU (Ned Washington/Hoagy Carmichael)

Helio arranged this Standard for our duo. Again, he uses new changes to make this
classic tune sound fresh.

8) CHORO DA NEVE (Hendrik Meurkens)

This Chorinho is brand new. I just wrote it over Christmas while visiting my mother
in Germany. It was composed during a snow storm and CHORO DA NEVE means

9) SOMEDAY MY PRINCE WILL COME/BLUESETTE (Larry Morey & Frank Churchill)/(Toots Thielemans)

Here we take two tunes that are originally in 3/4 time and make Sambas out of them.
SOMEDAY MY PRINCE WILL COME is from the Disney movie SNOW WHITE. Miles Davis made it into a Jazz Standard. BLUESETTE is of course by harmonica master Toots Thielemans. It is my ongoing dedication to his greatness.

Encore: LINGUA DE MOSQUITO (Choro No.6) (Hendrik Meurkens)

As a closer we repeat this Choro of mine. Choro is a happy and uplifting music form
and always a great way to close an evening. and AC Pianocraft, Inc. are Co-Producers of a Piano-Plus Jazz Series, a series of Benefits for New Orleans Musicians Clinic (Post-Hurricane Katrina), held in the elegant showroom of AC Pianocraft, Inc., Midtown West, NYC.
