Café Mozart threw a cocktail party for invited guests of this bustling bistro on the occasion of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's 250th birthday anniversary. In performance tonight were Lyndee White-Ortiz, Soprano, Dominic Inferrera, Baritone, Benedicte Jourdois, on Piano, and Dimiter Tchernookov, on Violin. Selections from Mozart's operas, symphonies, and concertos entertained the buoyant guests. The instrumental and vocal music was a perfect accompaniment to schnitzel, strawberries, and strudel. Champagne and wine flowed freely, thanks to owner, Amir Benesh, so generous to his thankful guests.
A special announcement was eagerly greeted, as tonight also marked the beginning of a search for the new Child Prodigy (under 18 years), a public school student, who will eventually win an essay and classical performance competition:
The contest is open to youth, under the age of 18 years, in the tri-state area of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut who are presently attending a public school. Youth who are already enrolled and studying in a music program at a private school are not eligible. All interested youth must submit an application accompanied by an essay to Café Mozart no later than February 23, 2006. The details will be accessible online at www.cafemozart.com as of January 27th.
100 contestants will be selected from the application and essay submissions. Each contestant is required to perform an instrumental piece from a work of Mozart on piano, violin, cello, viola, bass, French horn, trumpet, trombone, clarinet, saxophone or flute. On the last Wednesday night of each month in 2006 Café Mozart will host a Preliminary Competition Night: on March 29th, April 26th, May 31st, June 28th, July 26th, August 30th, September 27th, October 25th, and November 29th. One of these dates will be assigned to each contestant to perform and compete in the Preliminary Competition. These contestants will be judged by both a panel of classical music professionals and the dining public attending Café Mozart on the given night of performance. One winner will be selected from each Preliminary Competition.
Each of the nine Preliminary winners will be asked to come back and compete again in the Final Competition on Wednesday, December 6th. Again, each contestant is required to perform an instrumental piece from a work of Mozart not to exceed five-minutes in length. These contestants will then be judged by both a panel of classical music professionals and the dining public attending Café Mozart on the given night of performance. One final winner will be selected and awarded the grand prize of a $10,000 Scholarship to be used toward studying their musical talent.
We welcome you to join us at Café Mozart as dining guests on any of these Competition Nights. We are offering a $34.95 Prix Fixe three-course dinner including appetizer, entrée, dessert & coffee with a 6:00pm seating. Please call us at 212-595-9797 to reserve your table for the Talent Competition Night of your choice. Preliminary Rounds: March 29th, April 26th, May 31st, June 28th, July 26th, August 30th, September 27th, October 25th, and November 29th. Final Round: December 6th. (Cafe Mozart Press Release).
