Dr. Roberta E. Zlokower
June 27, 2005

This CD includes well-known ballads with original, upbeat interpretations. Kellaway adds solo riffs in between familiar song segments.

Notable tracks:

#4 – Just In Time – Composed by Comden, Green, and Styne. Kellaway switches the theme, high keys to low keys, in a fusion of contemporary jazz and traditional melodies. Sometimes jazz takes over, and sometimes there’s a decidedly New Orleans twist.

#6 – The Shadow of Your Smile – Composed by Mandel and Webster. With an atmospheric New Age entrance, Kellaway merges into soft romance. His left hand notes add creative texture and rich reflection.

#10 – When Your Lover Has Gone – Composed by Swan. The lower notes add contrasting rhythms and often replace the theme with remarkable calmness. A sense of peace, not urgency, pervades this ballad interpretation.

#11 – That’s All – Composed by Brandt and Haymes. With a bouncy swing, Kellaway adds a new twist to this standard. High note trills become thematic music with rapid, rippling effects.
