As Massimo Veccia, Founder and Director of Learn Italy New York, arrived tonight, direct from Rome, guests were dining at Etc. Etc. Restaurant, tucked into New York's theatre district. They enjoyed a menu of red and golden beet carpaccio, squid ink linguine with calamari, and compote with yogurt semifreddo. Bell' Aria, an Italian vocal ensemble of gorgeous singers, who range from soprano and mezzo-soprano, to tenor and baritone, brought down the house with renditions of "Volare", "Al Di La", "That's Amore", "Finiculi Finicula", "Mambo Italiano", and appropriately, for Massimo, "Arrivederci Roma'. Some of the songs were sung in English, some in Italian, and some in both languages. And "Mambo Italiano" even had the ensemble swinging to upbeat rhythms.

Miriam Pultro sang the solo, “Anema e Core", while Angelica DiCastro, Christopher Macchio, Gabriel Burrafato, and Jessica Carvo, as well as Miriam, sang solos, duets, and full ensemble versions, mostly selected from their new CD, "Little Italy", recorded by Manhattan Records. The vocalists were accompanied by recorded orchestral arrangements, and, during their intermission, we listened to Ezio Pellitteri on his sumptuous accordion. Massimo greeted the guests and Bell'Aria, introducing various executives and dignitaries in attendance. EMI Music co-sponsored this event, with Learn Italy New York, as they initiated the new Learn Italy Theatre District special events. Conversation was lively, ambiance was vibrant, and dinner was delicious. Check out Learn Italy New York to take a series of Italian language lessons or to register for future special events. You will meet other New Yorkers with a love for all that's Italian, and Learn Italy even has cooking and culture tours in Italy, specially designed for the astute and adventurous. Buon Viaggio!
