I was joined for this original and surreal show by Camille, my six year-old niece, and brother, and the look on my niece’s eyes told it all. Vietnamese performers, Fan Yang and wife Ana, with relatives Jano and Deni take turns in Fan Yang’s one-person Gazillion Bubble Show, which has been performed on television, in theaters around the globe, and in a new Las Vegas Gazillion Bubble Show. Fan Yang is a 16-time Guinness Book of World Records holder, creating giant bubbles that can actually surround large groups of people. The show includes a biographical film about the Yang family and their Vietnamese origins. Ana Yang was our solo performer today, and she used gesture and personality to keep the viewers focused. Lighting and sound effects were plentiful, with laser lights and electronic sound that made the viewers feel like they were entering another special realm. Sometimes it’s very dark, and bubbles blast out toward or down onto the audience. At other times, the stage is full of thousands of single bubbles, bubbles within bubbles, and giant bubbles that take on fog and rainbow lighting effects.

This is a seamless show, and Ms. Yang used drama and warmth, as she designed giant or geometrically shaped bubbles, with the use of a scientifically designed mouthpiece. In fact, some of the bubbles seemed like science experiments in an onstage lab. Ms. Yang invited small children to join her onstage, and when one young boy kept popping the bubbles, she reacted with playful tolerance. Children are chosen, just a few, to participate onstage, and that one aspect of the show was disappointing, as every child naturally was eager to be the star. I would suggest having children already onstage as “actors” or, even better, finding a way for all of the children and adults, perhaps a section at a time, to be allowed onstage for some bubble adventures. At the finale, children can have a photo taken inside a giant surround-bubble, at a reasonable souvenir price, and bubble toys and solution are also on sale in the shop. My niece was delighted with her beautiful, surround-bubble photo, and the audience seemed quite happy and involved. This is a program that could obviously be designed for groups and parties, and Fan Yang with wife Ana have created a concept that appeals to a multi-lingual, multi-generational audience.

After the Gazillion Bubble Show, we celebrated Camille’s sixth birthday at Ellen’s Stardust Diner, with singing and dancing wait staff, close by on Broadway.
