What a thrill to discover that Nina Ananiashvili, a prima ballerina, who retired from American Ballet Theatre in 2009, was suddenly in Manhattan, performing with her State Ballet of Georgia, for just one night, later this week, and she’d be hosted at Ana Tzarev Gallery. It was another thrill to discover the Ana Tzarev Gallery, on West 57th Street, with its dramatic glass elevator and Ms. Tzarev’s brightly inspired canvases. The current exhibit, “Impressions from Monet’s Garden”, brought me right back to Giverny, which I had visited some years ago. As a huge fan of Monet, I found this exquisite series of paintings textured, engaging, and true to the gardens.

The reception, hosted by International Concerts, was truly elegant, with wine, Georgian hors d’oeuvres, a Georgian folkloric musical ensemble, vocalists, and a chance to meet Nina and hear her speech about how much she missed New York. There were balletomanes as well as Nina’s New York friends and arts patrons. I even ran into Tommy and Adam, two quintessential fans of Nina. Watch for a dance review of Nina’s State Ballet of Georgia. I look forward to returning to Ana Tzarev Gallery and their future receptions.
